New York’s theatre district will pay tribute to the late James Gandolfini tonight.

Broadway theatres have announced that they will dim their marquee lights just before curtain time tonight in honour of the New Jersey-born actor.

Although he became famous playing Tony Soprano on television, Gandolfini’s career began on stage. He was in the cast of a 1992 Broadway revival of A Streetcar Named Desire and returned to Broadway to star in God of Carnage four years ago. He received a Tony nomination for his performance.

James Gandolfini died in Rome a week ago at the age of 51. His funeral will be tomorrow in New York.
